Nokia Lumia 900 for AT&T review: Going all in

And it is not only Nokia, who have a lot of hope for the Lumia 900. Microsoft is also on the band wagon. The software giant has been looking for a flagship device to showcase its Windows Phone platform. Heck, even AT&T hopes for the smartphone to live up to its marketing hype, and bring memories of the good old days when the iPhone was exclusive to the carrier. (more…)

Nokia Q1 results show big drop in smartphone sales

Regionally, Europe and China (traditionally strong markets for Nokia) saw big declines in popularity for the Finnish phone maker – Nokia sold 15.8 million units in Europe (down from 23.4 million in Q1 2011) and 9.2 million units in China (a steep 62% drop from 23.9 million units from last year’s Q1). The Middle East and Africa along with the Asia Pacific region remain strong markets for Nokia. (more…)

Nokia Lumia 900 connectivity fix gets outed ahead of schedule

The software update can be applied via Microsoft’s Zune software. In case you don’t feel like dealing with USB cables and such, you can also exchange your Nokia Lumia 900 at any AT&T store free of charge as well.

And by the way, Nokia and AT&T are still going to give you a $100 bill credit if you purchase a new device between now and April 21st as a goodwill gesture, thus making it free on a contract. (more…)

Nokia 808 PureView surfaces on pre-order in the UK

Clove.co.uk now offers the ultra-high-megapixel cameraphone but the pricetag is a bit harder to swallow than the one we saw from Nokia Italy. With the VAT included, the UK price amounts to £538.80, which is roughly €655, while Nokia Italy’s asking price is €599.

We hope other UK retailers chime in on that one and make a more palatable offer for the Nokia 808. A Dutch retailer, for instance, has a pre-order listed at €565.

Lumias aren’t competitive enough, say European carriers

Reuters has talked to several European carriers and they are unanimous – Nokia Lumia phones aren’t good enough to be any sort of threat for the iPhone and Android smartphones. And there are several reasons why this is so.

Operators claim Lumia phones are too pricey and bring little innovation to justify that. The lack of proper marketing strategy and the various software bugs have also put some users off. (more…)

MWC 2012: Nokia overview

Last year Nokia didn’t announce a single new phone at the MWC, but this year they came ready to steal the show. As expected, they unveiled the Nokia Lumia 610 WP7 Tango phone, worldwide availability for the Lumia 900 and a three new Ashas, but what really sent the crowd into a roar was the Nokia 808 Pure View.

Mary McDowell had to repeat it twice, so that people could be sure they didn’t mishear – the 808 Pure View packs an amazing sensor with a whopping 41 megapixels resolution. Yep, 41MP. The camera lets you snap 3MP, 5MP and 8MP photos and because they’re saved in a new image format, you can zoom in those photos with little image quality degradation at any time after taking the photo.

Or you could squeeze out almost every megapixel that the sensor has a shoot a 38MP image. That’s more than most DSLRs!

What we have for you here are two leaked slides, which allegedly show a concept design and the actual specs of the upcoming Nokia Lumia PureView. It should be the Windows Phone twin of the Symbian-based 808 PureView.

Nokia 808 PureView on pre-order in Italy, costs €600

The Nokia 808 PureView and its 41MP monstrosity are expected to hit the stores this May. With the release date closing in, Nokia Italy has started their pre-order campaign for the PureView.

The cameraphone costs €600 while €99 of those you must pay now to reserve your unit.

Free Xpress-on covers and discounts for the Nokia Lumia 710

Nokia have been busy revitalizing their brand image in the US, originally the with the introduction of their Windows Phone-endowed Lumia 710 and more recently its bigger brother the LTE-capable Lumia 900. It looks as though people are forgetting about the phone that started it all however and as such Nokia have announced a pair deals for owners and prospective buyers of the 710.

For starters, those who can prove that they recently purchased a Nokia Lumia 710 will be able to register for a second Xpress-on colored back cover. The extra rear plates are available in cyan, fuchsia, yellow and white and are designed to suit either version of 710 (black or white bodied). In order to prove eligibility, users will have to register their IMEI number, phone number and list a purchase date in order for Nokia to send them an extra back cover, free of charge. (more…)
